fruit frieze

Beautiful and functional: designed so your apples won’t get ooky when stacked skin-to-skin, this bowl displays them separately and standing at attention.

Don’t puss out and use this stick with a white candle.

hot hot sleep

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

In Florida, when the sun goes down, the temperature doesn’t. So when it’s still 80+ degrees at night, what’s a duvet-loving girl to do?

We now cover up under The Company Store’s peacock “super light” down-alternative duvet, whose breathable material allows air flow so that our sweat and slumber never mix.

high fives all around

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

These hand soaps are the perfect quirky touch for when your “known you since fifth grade/saw you through Trent Reznor hair/remembers your wine cooler swilling phase” best friend comes to visit.

Maybe not so good when your mother-in-law comes to town.

blades of glory

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Not since our purchase of a toaster oven has a kitchen gadget made me so excited. You see, I like to cook, I really do, but I *hate* to prep, probably because I’m a bit clumsy, and fingers, daydreams, and/or small children inevitably get in the way.

Enter Williams-Sonoma’s new professional multi-chopper: this thing chops, slices, dices, slivers, wedges, and cores (click the link for a hypnotic video).

Thank you, Williams-Sonoma, for enabling losers like me to finally make their first pot of vegetable soup.

coasting

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Coasters: much like husbands and jeans, you can never have too many.

So be a good guest this summer season and bring your host(ess) a set of this big button-esque tree-of-life coasters. The price for a set of four is a dollar over my $15 Frugal Friday limit, but since the proceeds go toward microloans for women artisans in developing countries, you’ll forgive me, right?

seaworthy

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

As you might have noticed from previous posts, I’m seduced by the sea; octopi, jellyfish, and beach bits capture my fancy. My little family spent vacay at the beach last week, and this objet d’art suits my mood exactly.

insta-gallery

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Consider this a low-tech digital frame for your kid’s art: you can display one piece at a time, while storing 50 more pictures behind it, ready to be shuffled into the rotation.

No more guilt about throwing away the pieces featuring a lone squiggle. Not that you would have done that anyway.

bleak house

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

nullBy virtue of our house’s directionality and location, it appears perpetually sunny and bright; what better way to infuse some darkness than these fantastically detailed Victorian posters, hand-drawn by Madame Talbot in New Orleans? (Plus, they’re buy three, get one free. Who can resist darkness at a discount?)

**************************

As the Bell Witch says:

Troubled like the restless sea,
Feeble, faint and fearful,
Plagued with every sore disease,
How can I be cheerful?

It’s time for a vacay; the beach cures all ills. Misosouper is taking a much-needed break, and will resume posting on Monday, June 2.

slime bank

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

nullAfter watching this week’s episode of “The Deadliest Catch,” I’ve become obsessed with the jellyfish that clog the fishermen’s pots: so beautiful, so gross, so unloved. So I’m planning on collecting them (or at least the non-gross, non-cruel version) in my own little pot.
