breaking out of your shell

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

mosaicostrichshellframeForget the safety of those overpriced crystal picture frames that plague many a wedding registry.   I’m putting my nuptial black-and-whites in this handmade mosaic frame, inlaid with tiny pieces of ostrich shell (the eggs are harvested after the chick hatches), which will be a timeless artifact that transcends purple paper napkins and porcelain keepsake doves.

go get ‘em, tiger

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

nullOh Leanne, you of the Project Runway fabric swoops, how do I love thee?

1.  You call yourself the Leanimal.  In public.  Which is a little wackadoodle.

2.  You seem like the kind of girl who would never say the phrase “wackadoodle” (listen up, Suede).  Or maybe you just use it in private, which is, um, hot.

3.  You can make a raggedy-ass Saturn seatbelt look like feathers.

4.  You are selling this dress on Etsy, which is so *me* that it seems bespoke.  Except for the price, of course.

putting on the ritz

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

So unabashedly swank: if you were ever to serve brunch to stuffy future in-laws or your elegant boss, this mid-century toast rack salvaged from the London Ritz would be your table’s coup de grace.

unplain drain

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Think of these lovely drains as incentive to keep your sink from becoming a dish-dumping ground.

the seven year itch

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

When Mr. Misosouper and I married seven years ago, we didn’t register for any “fine” china; I zapped a set of Fiestaware with my gun, and figured that someday, when we had a dining room (at that point, we didn’t even own a kitchen table) and a fully-funded 401k, we’d buy something we really loved, price be damned. (Sidenote: I understand that some wedding guests like to purchase expensive gifts. But asking Cousin Tillie for a $278 pie server? Really?)

That day of reckoning, the day of dedicated dining areas and vested retirement plans, has arrived. I want this set of gloriously bird-flecked china, deep down in my soul. Is it too late to register? Never mind. I suppose we’re on our own for that $1450 gilded teapot.
